Insurer Offers Exemptions from Profiling Program for Ophthalmic Subspecialists. You may have been profiled incorrectly to the public by United Health Care. You need to contact them at 877.842.3210 in order to ensure that you are not being profiled inaccurately to the public.

Some ophthalmic subspecialists can be excluded from UnitedHealthcare’s physician-profiling program.

The seven qualifying subspecialties are:

  • Neuro-ophthalmology
  • Oculoplasty
  • Pediatric
  • Retinal
  • Corneal
  • Glaucoma
  • Cataract refractive surgery

The UnitedHealth Premium® physician-designation program profiles participating providers based on quality and cost-efficiency indicators. Ophthalmologists with a high-quality, high-efficiency designation are visible to the public in the insurer’s provider directory. An ophthalmologist’s designation status does not affect her or his ability to see UnitedHealthcare patients. However, some plans may incentivize patients to use tier-one designated providers.

Physicians must individually seek removal from the profiling program by updating their primary specialty. They must use the insurer’s credentialing process to do so. Practices that do not use delegated credentialing can update a physician’s specialty by contacting the insurer at 877.842.3210. Those that use delegated credentialing must contact their internal credentialing administrator.
