Combined Orbital Radiotherapy, Corticosteroids Effective in Thyroid Eye Disease
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology
This retrospective, case-control study evaluated whether combining orbital radiotherapy with corticosteroids for thyroid eye disease lowered the risk of compressive optic neuropathy compared with corticosteroid therapy alone. Among 144 patients followed for an average of three years, the rate of compressive optic neuropathy was significantly lower (P < .0001) and improvement in ocular motility greater in patients receiving combined treatment.
