Endothelial Keratoplasty after Failed PK Better than Repeat PK

From the American Academy of Ophthalmology

This retrospective review compared graft survival rates following endothelial keratoplasty (EK) and repeat penetrating keratoplasty (PK) after failed PK. All subjects initially underwent PK for pseudophakic bullous keratopathy and were treated with similar postoperative immunosuppression regime. At up to 5 years follow-up, they found significantly prolonged graft survival in eyes that underwent EK after failed PK (cumulative survival probability 86.4% vs. 51.3%, P = .013).
