Glaucoma Risk Increased After Vitrectomy
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology
This cross-sectional review included 156 patients (312 eyes) who underwent pars plana vitrectomy and did not have open-angle glaucoma before surgery, as well as nonvitrectomized eyes. Among them, 15 vitrectomized (8.9%) and 3 nonvitrectomized (2%) eyes went on to develop glaucoma, a difference that was statistically significant (P = 0.02, chi-square test). No significant difference was found in glaucoma prevalence between phakic or aphakic/pseudophakic status at the time of vitrectomy (P = 0.48, chi-square test). Retina, August 2014
