Hypertension, vascular disease, black race increase risk for CRVO
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology
Using data from a large nationwide managed care network, researchers confirmed several risk factors for central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) such as hypertension and glaucoma, and identified other variables—including black race, male sex, peripheral artery disease, stroke, complicated diabetic macular edema and hypercoagulable state. Additionally, they shed light on inconsistent findings concerning the association between diabetic macular edema and CRVO by showing that those with end-organ damage from diabetes were at higher risk while those with uncomplicated disease were not.
