New Insight on the Genetics of Glaucoma
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology
Investigators assessed the association between CAV1/CAV2 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using two large, case-control data sets. They confirmed the association of CAV1/CAV2 with POAG overall and showed that these associations may be stronger in women and in subtypes of POAG with early paracentral visual field defects only. Additionally, this study provides more evidence that the nitric oxide signaling pathway plays an important role in POAG pathogenesis. Ophthalmology, February 2014
