Physicians Must Begin EHR Reporting by Oct. 3 to Receive Medicare Incentive
From the American Academy of Ophthalmology
Physicians who want to participate in the 2012 Medicare Electronic Health Record Incentive Program must begin a required 90-day reporting period by Oct. 3. To qualify for the incentive payment, physicians must successfully meet a set of “meaningful use” measures during the reporting period and submit their data through the CMS Registration and Attestation System. Physicians who begin the program in 2012 are eligible to receive a total incentive of $44,000 over five years. Physicians who wait until 2013 to participate are still eligible for a slightly reduced incentive of $39,000 over four years. The Ophthalmology Meaningful Use Attestation Guide is on the Academy website for members who plan to participate in the EHR incentive program. Additional information regarding the program is available on the Academy’s EHR Central.
