Investigators retrospectively evaluated the benefit of performing routine tuberculosis (TB) screening, such as the purified protein derivative test, in patients with uveitis presenting to the government-funded Los Angeles County Hospital. Of the 142 consecutive patients included, 4% overall and 8% of foreign-born study participants had a final diagnosis of intraocular TB. The post-test probabilities of a positive test result yielded a 17.2% (all patients) and 30.3% (foreign-born patients) chance of being associated with ocular TB.
