Problem-solving therapy can improve quality of life in AMD patients

From the American Academy of Ophthalmology

This randomized trial compared two therapeutic approaches to improving visual function and vision-related quality of life (QoL) in patients with bilateral AMD and high levels of visual disability. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either problem-solving therapy (PST) or supportive therapy (ST). They found that PST did not outperform ST with regard to vision function; however, it did increase patients' use of adaptive coping strategies and improved their vision-related QoL. PST emphasizes a systematic approach to identifying problems and generating solutions, which may help patients regain a sense of control over their situation and adapt more effectively.
